(1) Cut the 12" x 12" piece of Sticky-Back Canvas to 8" x 8” and adhere to chipboard.
(2) Using a flat paintbrush, apply Matte Multi-Medium to the back of some torn newsprint ephemera and randomly adhere to the canvas. Use a heat tool to speed up the drying process.
(3) Apply Gesso to areas around ephemera to soften the edges or cover some of the printing.
(4) Working on a Non-Stick Craft Sheet, mix Sky Blue Paint with Matte Multi-Medium. This will not only extend the drying time making it easier to blend but will also make a more translucent glaze with the paint. Start at the top of the canvas painting in a horizontal motion. Add more Multi-Medium or more paint if needed to adjust the look you want. Towards the bottom of the canvas start adding small amounts of Smidge of Blue paint to blend in to a darker bottom color. Let dry.
(5) Trim a photo to 4" x 4” and paint around the edges with Purple Palette Paint. Adhere to the center of the canvas.
(6) Cut out various shapes on the 8½" x 11” Sticky-Back Canvas using a Silhouette Digital Craft Cutter. Use scissors to cut through completely if needed.
(7) Create a resist background on one of the flowers by using the unmounted rubber dot stamp and stamping with Matte Multi-Medium. Use a heat tool to dry quickly. Paint over the flower with Purple Palette and Smidge of Blue paint mixed with water. The stamped areas will resist the paint!
(8) On another flower, use Matte Multi-Medium to adhere newsprint ephemera and let dry. Cut off or tear any excess newsprint from around the edges. Paint over the newsprint with Purple Palette and Smidge of Blue paint mixed with water or Multi-Medium.
(9) Paint and layer two more flowers with a combination of Painterly Pink and Dash of Red Paint. Create a doodled effect using a thin round paint brush.
(10) Paint leaves with Landscape Green. Add a bit of Classic Teal to the edges to create depth.
(11) Adhere leaves and flowers to the canvas.
(12) Using a 4" x 12" scrap from the 12" x 12” Sticky-Back Canvas, cut random horizontal strips about 6” long (vary thickness from ½” to 1”) in to the 12” strip. Trip a few of the strips on the end a bit shorter. Remove the backing from the canvas and begin twisting each strip tightly to create branches. When all of the small strips are twisted, twist the thicker side to make the main branch. Trim and “tweak” as needed. Paint the branch with Sable Brown, let dry and adhere to the canvas with Glossy Accents.
(13) Paint the bird blending Yellow Pastel and Dab of Yellow, let dry and adhere to the canvas above the branch.
(14) Apply rub-ons for the title.
