Alcohol Ink Ceramic Tile Landscape by Teresa Kovalak

Teresa Kovalak shares how to recreate this Alcohol Ink landscape painting in this easy to follow, step-by-step video tutorial.

Alcohol Ink Landscape Painting

Step 1:  Start by putting a large amount of Alcohol Blending Solution onto the tile.

Step 2:  Add a variety of blue colors as well as pinks and yellows to make the sky. Tip the tile as necessary to create desired effect in creating a cloud formation.

Step 3: While the clouds are drying I start to work on the horizon ofwater, picking up small amounts of ink and gliding the paintbrush side to side very lightly with a fanbrush.

Step 4: Start forming the rocks in the foreground, using mostly greens, browns and black with a touch of the pinks and yellows. This is also done with a fan brush. Create contrast for the rocks to form, with beach grass coming up between them. Clean your brush in Isopropyl Alcohol between colors.

Step 5: Add depth with darker shades of color, and add highlights with lighter colors. Continue to work on the horizon line, which is a far away landmass, so use dark shades of green and brown.  Add pine trees to the horizon line with Pitch Black making sure to include their reflection in the water.

Step 6: Now that the rock formation is dried, add in some details with some colorful flowers.

Step 7: Lastly, add some birds into the sky with the small size 0 round paintbrush. No reflection is necessary since they are too high up in the sky to be seen in the water.

Teresa Kovalak

Hi my name is Teresa Kovalak, I have been making art my whole life but professionally for almost 30 years. I am a mixed media artist, I originally started doing oil paintings but when I had my daughters I started doing jewelry and upcycled work. Recently 3 years ago I ventured into the world of Alcohol Inks and more recently I have begun to do art tutorials on YouTube. I’m a native Michigander but a part of me will always live at the ocean’s shore, you will see this reflected in my art where I am highly inspired by Michigan nature and the beauty of the seaside.
