Hi crafty friends, it’s Cheiron here and I have a fun little project for you today using Alcohol Inks. I am going to show you how to make 8 (yes 8!) cards using just one sheet of 8 x 10 Yupo paper. I love the look of landscape type alcohol ink art and I thought it would be fun to try to recreate a piece on an 8 x 10 piece of paper to use on a card
For this project, I used 8 x 10 white Yupo cardstock, Alcohol Inks in Gumball, Valencia, Dandelion, Lemonade, Dijon, Willow, and Pool along with one of the new Alloys in Gilded. I intended just to make a set of 4 cards using the Tim Holtz SIzzix Heartbeat die, and when I saw how beautiful the heart cut outs looked, I saved them to make another 4 cards…which seemed like a perfect thank you card to create for healthcare workers.
Step 1: Put a piece of Yupo cardstock horizontally on a small tabletop easel. Add a paper towel at the bottom to catch the drips. Take out your Alcohol Ink colors and remove the caps. Drip your first color. (You can add color from the top or bottom. Start with the yellow and add lots of it, as it is hard to add more yellow back in once the colors start to blend.)
Step 2: Add more colors, being aware of what colors you are adding next to each other so you don’t get a lot of brown when they mix (I still got a bit and I was fine with that).
Step 3: Continue to add the colors, building layers. I added more drips over colors I already had. The colors will pool at the very bottom, but we will cut that piece off!
Step 4: Keep building the layers until you have filled the entire sheet with color.
Step 5: Drip the Alloy with a little bit of Blending Solution down the panel. Let dry.
Step 6: Cut the panel into four pieces that are 3 ¾ x 5. As you are cutting, cut the paper so the piece with all the drips gets cut out. If you put your piece of paper into the trimmer longways and cut at 3 ¾ twice from the good side of the panel, you will get rid of that half inch where the drips will accumulate.
Step 7: Use the Tim Holtz Sizzix Heartbeat Die to cut a heart out of all 4 panels. Save the inside heart pieces, we will also be using them.
Step 8: Stamp the Tiny Text on four 3 ½ square panels using Tumbled Glass Distress Ink by pressing the panels directly onto the inked up stamp, then adhere them to the back of the panels with the window heart. Stamp the “From the Heart” sentiment from the Simple Sayings set onto a white panel, then adhere the cut-out hearts to them with foam tape.
Step 9: Once all of your panels are ready, adhere them to kraft notecards cut to 4 ¼ X 5 ½. Adhere the window hearts with foam tape, and adhere the white panels with regular adhesive.
