Curiosity Canvas Panel by Aida Haron

Guest Artist Aida Haron shares a mixed canvas tutorial full of layers and techniques that are sure to inspire you!

Instructions

Hello everyone ! I love making small layered canvases containing messages and they make perfect gifts or art to display around your home. Currently water color techniques are very popular and they are really easy to create by diluting the Distress Paints with water and using it to paint with a brush.

To start, using the Mixed Media Cardstock, I die-cut 2 portions of dots with the Mixed Media Thinlits and trimmed a piece 8in x 6in. Lightly gesso both pieces.

Cover the 8in x 6in cardstock with with Idea-ology Tissue Wrap Melange using the matte medium and when dry, a very thin layer of Gesso.

Scrunch up the tissue wrap cardstock. This will help the paint wash puddle into the creases.

Give the dotted die-cut a light wash of Distress Evergreen Bough mixed with water.

Paint and splatter the cardstock with Distress Stain Mermaid Lagoon, Distress Paint Everygreen Bough and Squeezed Lemonade. Make sure the painted colors on the background cardstock are deeper than the dotted die-cut.

Stamp a sentiment and heat emboss with clear powder.  Scrunch the paper and ink lightly with Gathered Twigs. There really is no right or wrong way to do this and it all depends on how grunged up you like your paper to be. Assemble the paper layers using thick foam squares. add flowers and metal accents. For more color add washes of Distress Ripe Persimmon allowing it to pool in areas where the paper is more wrinkled.

To create more texture, I dipped a brush with Distress Clear Crackle Paint, then into Distress Glitter. *Paint* this on the project as thinly or thickly as you prefer. This was so much fun to do as the bits of glitter began to crust in some areas. Adjust the colors with more Distress paint or gesso.

And this is how it looks close up.

Paint a 8 x 8in canvas with Squeezed Lemonade, Iced Spruce mixed with a little gesso. After completely drying, mount the piece securely with thin styrofoam to a Kraft Resist paper, then the canvas. To frame the piece more effectively, add washes of Ripe Persimmon and Evergreen Bough on the canvas. Additional metal accents add to the vintage feel of the project and you will notice the glitter was adhered to the numerals as well.

I totally love Distress Paints and this one more way to use them. Thank you for joining me in this tutorial and I hope you will try creating a project using the ideas here !
