Dina Wakley Media Layered Collage Papers by Laura Dame

Get inspired by this vibrant and textured art journal page by Laura Dame! Using Dina Wakley MEdia paints, stencils, and stamps, Laura layered painted and printed collage papers to build this playful, mixed media masterpiece.

Instructions

In this project we’ll be creating layered collage papers using Dina Wakley MEdia supplies. The process includes painting, stenciling, stamping on various papers, then creating a fun collage with the results!

Step 1: Gather some papers to paint - these can be any type of paper you have on hand. I used book pages, but you could use cardstock, kraft, watercolor paper, anything you like. Grab a large paintbrush and go nuts, painting the papers with different paints.

Step 2: Once the papers are dry, it's time to start adding layers with stencils. Add subtle layers by using the same paints found in your background or add a pop by using contrasting colors. Layer stenciling over stenciling until you are happy with your papers.

Step 3: Now we make some stamped papers! Spread some of the acrylic paints onto a craft sheet and spray them with water. Add a stamp to a stamp block and press the stamp into the paint (you can use a brayer to spread the paint to make it easier to stamp into). Stamp with multiple colors onto one page.

Step 4: When creating collages, I always like to have papers on hand that provide a lot of contrast or white space. To do that, take some card stock and stencil all over the page using black gesso.

Step 5: Now it's time to rip up the papers and glue them onto a page in our journals. I like using the kraft journals for collage as they have a nice contrast against the paint colors and create a nice border. There is no real right or wrong to creating the collage, just rip and glue!

Step 6: Finally, add a focal point to the collage with fussy cut stamped images. Add some splatters, and call it done!
