Who doesn’t love a little paper doll play? Creating focal points ahead of time to have at the ready, is a handy way to create freely and stay in the “flow”. In this project, we used Dina Wakley MEdia Scribble Sticks under collage paper for a layered effect. Follow along to see how to make these fun ladies to add to your mixed media projects.

Step 1: Doodle some bold patterns onto your white cardstock with several colors of Scribble Sticks. Optional: Spray with water to blend your colors.

Step 2: Using some Ultra Thick Gel Medium, glue down bits of Collage Paper on top of your Scribble Stick papers. Allow to dry.

Step 3: Once dry, you can trim your pages down. This is a step where you can create a whole bunch for future use, so really let yourself explore the technique and create a nice stack!

Step 4: Stamp some focal images down onto white cardstock paper. Cut out around the heads and leave some extra room at the neck line to add your “bodies” to.

Step 5: Trim some simple necklines out and line up your papers on top of your doll’s neckline. Using a Stabilo Pencil, trace a loose figure shape and cut out. Glue your collage “body” to the neckline of your figure.

Step 6: This is the step where you can really play with the Scribble Sticks and bring out the features of your faces. You can also add some more patterns and doodles on the top of your figures. Have some fun combining the bits from different papers to make hats and accessories, and give your dolls your own pizazz.
