I used to find masculine cards very challenging to make, but Simon Hurley has designed so many fabulous stamps and stencils that mix and match to perfection; now it really is "Smooth Sailing"!
Step 1: Stamp the larger sailboat from Simon Hurley's Smooth Sailing stamp set in clear Emboss It Ink and sprinkle with Ranger Black Embossing Powder. Tap off excess powder and return to jar. Use the Ranger Heat It tool to melt the powder. Set image aside until it has cooled completely.
Step 2: Smoosh some Sepia Archival Ink onto a plastic palette or your craft sheet, pick up color with a waterbrush filled with Isopropyl Alcohol, and use it to paint the lower part of the sailboat. Use an alcohol wipe to clean the craft sheet and a little bit of isopropyl to clean the brush. Repeat the same method to paint the lower parts of the sails with Shadow Grey. When the image is completely dry, cut out the boat with scissors or the coordinating dies.
Step 3: Ink Simon Hurley's Watercolor Background Stamp with Beach Cruiser Archival and stamp onto a 5" square of Stark White Cardstock. Re-ink with Cobalt Archival and stamp a second panel. Allow both to dry before proceeding.
Step 4: On the Beach Cruiser Watercolor panel from Step 3, stamp the palm trees from Simon's Treescapes set about 3" from the top in clear Emboss It ink and emboss with black powder.
Step 5: When the panel has cooled completely, use a Mini Ink Blending Tool and Domed Foam to apply Seafarer Archival in the two inches below the palm trees.
Step 6: Trim the Cobalt Watercolor panel from Step 3 into three 5 x 1.75" strips. Ink one strip in Cobalt, one in Beach Cruiser and and one in Manganese.
Step 7: Add a soft, wave-like curve to the top of each of the blue rectangles from Step 6, then run a clear Emboss It Ink Dabber lightly across the wavy edges. Emboss with White Embossing Powder and set aside.
Step 8: Working carefully with scissors or a craft knife, separate the "Happy Birthday" sentiment from the "Today is All A-Boat You" sentiment in the Smooth Sailing set. (Note that if you do this with care, both halves of the stamp can still be used; together or separately!) Stamp the "A-Boat" sentiment on a small rectangle of Stark White Cardstock in Jet Black Archival. Stamp "Dad" from Letter It's Family stamp set directly above. Trim into a neat flag. On another scrap of cardstock, stamp the sun from the Treescapes set in clear ink and emboss with Marigold Embossing Powder. Cut out with scissors or a 1/2" circle punch.
Step 9: Trim a piece of Stark White Cardstock to 5.25" square and edge the entire panel with several coats of Sun Dazed Archival, until you have a rich golden shade similar to the embossed sun.
Step 10: Assembly: Adhere the foamy waves from to the lower part of the Watercolor panel with the embossed palm trees, so they overlap pleasingly; trim the entire panel to a 5" square and mat on the Sun Dazed panel. Add the sailboat, sun and sentiment using small pieces of foam tape. Attach the finished design panel to a 5.5" square card made from Stark White Cardstock using Dina Wakley MEdia Glue.
Step 11: Write a note inside the card and mail --or hand deliver-- this greeting to your father or father-in-law and make plans to celebrate Father's Day together... either in person, or via your favorite app!
