Sticky-Back Canvas Mother’s Day Wreath by Patti Behan

Use Sticky-Back Canvas, Dylusions Ink Sprays and Distress Glitter to make this beautiful wreath. It’s a perfect Mother’s Day gift!

Instructions

Cut two large leaf stems and 4 small leaf stems out of grungeboard.

Working on the Non-Stick Craft Sheet, paint all of the leaf stems with Mowed Lawn Distress Paint. Set aside to dry. Ink the edges with Pine Needles Distress ink using the Mini Ink Blending Tool with foam.

Cut 20 of the smaller 6-petal flower, 3 of the large 6 petal flower, 6 of the small 5-petal flower out of Sticky- Back Canvas using the Jumbo Tattered Florals Die.

To make the big purple flower:

Place the two big flowers and one small on the Non-Stick Craft sheet.

Spray all the flowers with water to get them wet enough so the color will bleed, and then spray Funky Fuchsia toward the middle of each flower.

Spray all the flowers with water again, and then spray Crushed Grape toward the outer edges of the flowers. Add more water and blot with a paper towel if needed. Set aside to dry.

Once the flowers have dried, remove the release paper from the flowers and place them sticky-side up on a piece of scrap paper.

Pour Seedless Preserves on top of the sticky flowers and remove the excess by gently rubbing with your fingers. Return the excess glitter to the jar.

Cut slits into the center of each flower.

Grab three stamens and fold them in half.

Start with the smallest flower, glitter side up. Wrap the flower around the stamen and glue it closed with the glue gun.

Take the large flower and place it spray side up under the first layer.

As you wrap the flower around the stamen, you are going to twist every other petal to expose the glitter, and glue the last petal down with hot glue.

Apply small dots of hot glue to the center front of random petals and pinch closed.

Take the next petal and repeat.

Insert a 10” length of wire into the folded stamens and fold in half. Set aside.

Repeat same procedure to make a large pink flower.

To make small “purple” flowers, place three of the smaller 6-petal flowers and one 5-petal flower on the Non-Stick Craft Sheet. (Note: You will need to make three of these flowers, but these are the instructions for one at a time.)

To make the “pink” flowers spray the middle of the flower with Bubblegum Pink and the outer edges with Funky Fuchsia. You will need three of these, as well.

Once the flowers have dried, remove the release paper from the flowers and place them sticky-side up on a piece of scrap paper. Pour Seedless Preserves on top of the sticky flowers and remove the excess by gently rubbing with your fingers. Return the excess glitter to the jar.

Cut a slit in each flower by starting at any petal and going into the center.

Take three stamens and fold them in half. Start with the smallest flower. Place it spray side up. Wrap it around the stamen and adhere with the glue gun.

Take one of the remaining flower diecuts and place it glitter side up. Wrap it around the first layer and adhere it to the first layer and itself with the glue gun. Next, randomly add a small dot of hot glue to the center of various petals and pinch it closed. Alternate by adding a dot of hot glue to the back of the petals. At this point it does not look much like a flower, but it will as you continue to add the layers.

Take another diecut flower, place it spray side up. Repeat the same technique or gluing this layer on.

Take the last diecut flower, place it glitter side up. Glue as before.

Add length of wire through the folded stamens and set aside.

Make 2 more purple flowers. You can try starting with the spray side up this time.

Repeat the same procedure to make the three pink flowers. (Note: you can try to make some flowers with less or more layers as desired.)

To make bow: Cut a 28” length of white ribbon for the double bow and a 34” length of white ribbon for the tail. Place on the Non-Stick Craft sheet and spray with Crushed Grape Ink Spray. Blot off any excess with a paper towel. Let dry.

Take the 28” length of the ribbon and make a loop that is 5” wide for the top layer of the bow and then continue by making a loop that is 7” wide. Pinch the loops in the center and take the 34” length of ribbon and tie a knot in the center and toward the back to create the tail. Trim the edges of the tail as desired.

Finished photo-To Finish: Attach the flowers to the wreath as shown with the wire and secure with more hot glue. Add in the garden greens as shown and attach with hot glue. Adhere the bow as shown with hot glue.
