What is a Junk Journal?

A junk journal is a whatever you want it to be.  A personal mixed-media creation made from a collection of found, recycled, and decorative materials—often called “junk”.  Journals can be bound by hand or purchased and filled with items that reflect a unique style or creative process.

Components can include almost anything- from vintage or scrap papers, envelopes, tags, tickets, packaging or fabric scraps, stitching, photos, and more.  Embellish your journal with inks, paints and other mediums and personalize with pens, markers, stencils, and stamps.

Designed to be layered, textured, and imperfect, celebrating creativity and personal expression over precision.  Used to creatively record memories, document life, ideas, or art through collage, writing, and mixed media.

Get started with a collection of supplies and create your own expressive space.

There's a reason junk journals have become such a favorite mixed media project. They turn scraps you'd otherwise toss out – old book pages, ticket stubs, bits of lace – into something you actually want to keep. This collection has the building blocks for putting one together from scratch.

Our junk journal supplies cover the essentials: decorative papers, tags, ephemera packs, adhesives and binding materials, so you're not hunting across five different collections to start a page. Layer in some vintage-style paper, tuck in a pocket for keepsakes and add texture with paste or a little glitter glue along the edges.

Whether you're a longtime junk journals fan or putting your first spread together this weekend, these supplies are made to be mixed and matched. There's no single right way to build a page, which is honestly the fun of it.

Since fabric scraps make gorgeous journal covers and pockets, check out our Tim Holtz fabric collection while you're at it. Pair it with these junk journal supplies, and you'll have everything you need for your next spread.
