InstructionsÂ
One of the best things about art journaling is layering different colors, ideas, and supplies. For this project we’ll combine a bunch of different mixed media techniques to come up with a fun, multi-layered art journal page.
Â
Step 1: Gather your Large Kraft Journal, a favorite stencil, and a variety of acrylic paints in the same color family. Here Carnation, Fuschia, Cheddar, and Stoked were used.
Â
Step 2: Using a ½ inch brush, apply paint through the stencil and onto the page. Make sure not to blend too much as the goal is to see the different brush strokes and colors.
Â
Step 3: Apply White Gesso to a #10 White Tag and let dry. Grab a couple of acrylic paints that contrast with the original colors used.Â
Â
Step 4: Spray the tag with lots of water. Make sure the ½ inch brush is clean and still wet/damp, and swipe some colors across the tag, letting the paint swirl and mix. Grab a Scribble Stick or water soluble pencil and make some scribbles through the paint. Make sure to leave white space somewhere on the tag.Â
Colors used here were Turquoise, Night, Fuschia, and a Cheddar Scribble Stick.Â
Â
Step 5: After it is dry, staple or glue the tag into your journal. Using Ultra Thick Gel Medium, add some of your favorite collage tissue to the tag. With a white gel pen, add some journaling.
Â
Step 6: Fussy cut a botanical from collage tissue. With some vintage book paper and the cut botanical, create a focal point on your tag. Add a phrase from the typed ledger papers.
Â
Step 7: Add some gloss spray splatters to the page for a finishing touch!Â
