Thankful Home Decor Tag by Paula Cheney

Explore the world of Tim Holtz Distress with this vintage Thankful Tag tutorial by Paula Cheney.  Use various mediums and surfaces to create layers of texture and dimension in the this autumn inspired project.

Instructions

Distress Thankful Tag Step 1

Step 1: Cut one sheet of Woodgrain Cardstock to fit a small Stampers Anonymous Etcetera Tag.

Distress Thankful Tag Step 2

Step 2: Adhere the Woodgrain Cardstock to the Etcetera Tag with Collage Medium Matte and a small Collage Brush.

Distress Thankful Tag Step 3

Step 3: Spray tag with multiple colors of Distress Spray Stain (Walnut Stain and Frayed Burlap). Mist with water from a Distress Sprayer and dry with a Heat It Craft Tool until dry to the touch.

Distress Thankful Tag Step 4

Step 4: Spritz with Iced Spruce Distress Oxide Spray and water. Repeat steps until there are random spots of Iced Spruce over the brown background. Dry with a Heat It Craft Tool.

Distress Thankful Tag Step 5

Step 5:  Using a Palette Knife, scrape Texture Paste Opaque Crackle over the surface. Set aside to air dry at least 30 minutes.

Distress Thankful Tag Step 6

Step 6: Once the paste is crackled, use Distress Crayons to color the Texture Paste. Starting with Walnut Stain Distress Crayon, scribble over the Texture Paste and work it in with a damp finger or paint brush. Move to Iced Spruce and then Pine Needles, ending with highlights using the Picket Fence Crayon.

Distress Thankful Tag Step 7

Step 7: Using Distress Embossing Ink and Gold Embossing Powder, emboss three leaves from the Stampers Anonymous Pressed Foliage stamp set onto Mixed Media Heavystock.

Distress Thankful Tag Step 8

Step 8: Using a Detailer Water Brush, color leaves with fall Distress Inks colors like Wild Honey, Spiced Marmalade and Aged Mahogany. Cut out leaves.

Distress Thankful Tag Step 9

Step 9: Use a Gathered Twigs Distress Crayon to scribble heavily over the Idea-ology Baseboard Lace Frame. Rub crayon into the recessed areas and wipe away much of the excess crayon with a wet wipe so you are left with the dark crayon in the background.

Distress Thankful Tag Step 10

Step 10: Add four foam squares to the back of the frame to raise it off the surface. Adhere to the Etcetera Tag. Spell the word THANKFUL using idea-ology Typography and adhere with Collage Medium. TIP: a trick to straight letters, slip a small rectangle of chipboard under the frame. Adhere the letters, then remove the chipboard.

Distress Thankful Tag Step 11

Step 11: Spray a long strip of idea-ology Mummy Cloth with Walnut Stain Distress Spray Stain. Let the Mummy Cloth soak up the stain, then dry with Heat It Craft Tool. Tie into a bow with long tails.

Distress Thankful Tag Step 12

Step 12: Using foam squares and Collage Medium, adhere the leaves to the frame. Adhere the Mummy Cloth bow at the base of the two leaves. Add natural elements like sticks and pods with Collage Medium to enhance the fall feeling.
