Hey Ranger fans, I am thrilled to be back and sharing with you my creepy coffin box full of curiosities. I’ll share with you how I made the box look like it was built with wood planks creating a Faux Wood Coffin. So you can make your own.
Step 1. I started with the Movers and Shapers Coffin Box die and some mat board. You’ll want to grab a straight edge ruler and I used a bone folder to score the wood planks. Score the “wood planks” the length of the coffin, turn it and score the “plank ends” offsetting the scoring like you would see if it was real wood.
Step 2. Now that the coffin box is scored, the folded pieces can be cut. Since this is not paper, we won’t need to fold. Once that is done it’s time to ink with Distress Spray Stain Vintage Photo.
Step 3. Once the Distress Spray Stain Vintage Photo is dry the “wood plank” lines need to be highlighted. Grab the ruler and trace over your scored lines with Distress Marker Ground Espresso. Sand the edges to give it a worn look, then punch out some holes where the “nails” go.
Step 4. Place the holes near the wood plank ends and attach mini brads for an authentic look. When the mini brads are in place, the sides can be folded and glued. I use my hot glue for this process. Get out the Distress Inks Black Soot, Rusty Hinge and Ground Espresso.
Step 5. Using Distress Inks Black Soot, Rusty Hinge and Ground Espresso is a great way to add depth and intensity to the color. To create a rotting wood look I used the Distress Marker Spritzer Tool with Distress Marker Black Soot. This is a great time to add some metal like this worn sword inked up with Teak Wood Alcohol Ink.
Step 6. I know what you’re thinking… Sizzix Prancing Deer die? Cut off the antlers (or most of them) and ink with Distress Spray Stains Hickory Smoke and Black Soot.
Step 7. Sand the edges of the Deer allowing some of the ink to peel off so they look like Zombie Deer. Then add Distress Ink Black Soot and Ground Espresso. I wanted a good base for the coffin box to ride on so I used Sizzix Eileen Hull Recipe Box die, cut the flap off and inked with Distress Spray Stain Black Soot. Make crackle glass with a coat of Glue n’ Seal, air dry then add Clear Rock Candy Distress Crackle paint. Once dry add Teak Wood Alcohol Ink to show off the crackle.
Step 8. We need some wheels. So a toothpick, hot glue and a few Sprocket Gears will be perfect. I added more hardware with a Curiosities Word Band and #31 Plaquette. Adding Slate Alcohol Ink is a great way to achieve that worn effect.
Step 9. Time to add embellishments and break some skeletons! I have these metal skulls and the sword that I inked up with Alcohol Ink and they complement my Idea-ology embellishments perfectly. I love to break the skeletons and shape them for the project. One needs to be trying to escape despite the twine holding him in. This is where you can have fun embellishing.
Step 10. The Tiny Vial turned out great all crackled, inked and added Frightful Design Ephemera label.
Step 11. One Skeleton isn’t enough so I added another one dragging behind. He has ripped his arm off to reach.
Step 12. The Prancing Zombie Deer are harnessed with Tinsel Twine pulling the coffin and with its companions.
Step 13. The Skeleton is hanging out of the Coffin Box trying to escape. A little color is injected with a Mirrored Star inked with Meadow Alcohol Ink for the Zombie Deer. These pumpkins are flower pods from the Dollar Store I inked months ago with Distress Paint Rusty Hinge. Create a scene with pumpkins, moss and Idea-ology Wish Bone.
