Spring Journal Spread by Miranda van den Bosch

Instructions

Now that SPRING is here, the days are slowly getting longer and on some days it feels a bit warmer, it inspired me to make a spread about spring in my journal.

Step 1: I wanted the word SPRING to cover the whole page. Because it’s always hard to rub away pencil-lines on backgrounds painted with acrylic paints, I did the handlettering first. When I was satisfied with the size and shape I went over to paint the background.

Step 2: I used Dylusions paints for creating the background. I used London Blue, Lemon Zest and White Linen. The London Blue and Lemon Zest blend to a lovely colour green. By using the White Linen while I was blending, I was able to create more pastel-like colours.

Step 3: When you look closely to the background, you will still be able to see the word spring. I traced the lines with Dylusions Black Marble Paint Pen and coloured the letters using Black Marble Paint and a brush.

Step 4: Now that the word is coloured, I started on decorating the borders using the Oodles of Foliage Set. The new leaf set is really very cool. Don’t you think so, too? I love using leaves, they always add a little extra to your pages. You can colour the leaves green or black…they always look fabulous.

Step 5: I took 6 images from both the Mini Me and Mini Moo stampsets. I wanted an image for every letter in the word spring. The new images are so lovely and quite a few of my favorite ones from older sets are now available as a mini. I decided to give one new arms, so I could make her climb down the letter N.

Step 6: I also cut off the legs and glued them down again, this time a slightly bit tilted.

Cut out all the images and glue them down to your page with the Ranger gluestick.

Step 7: After I glued down all the images, I thought there was something missing in the background. I found this cute flower in the How Does your Garden Grow set. I coloured all the flowers using a Tim Holtz Waterbrush and the Dylusions Paints Cherry Pie, White Linen, Bubblegum Pink, Lemon Zest and Tangerine Dream.

Step 8: After colouring all the flowers, I traced the line again using the Dylusions Black Marble Paint Pen.

Step 9: For the final touch, I wrote down “is in the air” with the Dylusions White Linen Paint Pen. Now I am satisfied with the result. I really enjoyed making this spread and I hope you will, too. Happy Spring!
