One fun way to play when you’re feeling a lack of inspiration is to create little abstract
grids in your art journal. Using tape to make a grid allows you to paint over the tape and make a mess, then be surprised by the results once you remove it. The best part is the satisfaction of peeling away the tape - it’s so fun!

Step 1: Using the pink art tape, create a grid across a two page spread in the
watercolor journal.

Step 2: Scribble color across the pages with Scribble Sticks, trying to ignore the lines of tape - scribble over it and into another part of the grid, as if the tape wasn’t there.

Step 3: With a wet paint brush, activate the Scribble Sticks. Spread the color around
and allow them to mix, but make sure to leave some white space.

Step 4: Pick a stencil with larger spaced openings (not a lot of small details). Place the stencil over the page, and spray Clear Gloss through it, and repeat on the other side. Allow the pages to dry.

Step 5: Once the gloss is dry, loosely paint some watered down acrylic in contrasting
colors over the pages. Use a wet wipe or a paper towel to wipe the acrylic away, leaving the stencil design visible.

Step 6: Apply some thicker areas of lighter-colored acrylic in spaces. Before it dries,
scribble into the wet paint with a pencil or Stabilo.

Step 7: Add some splatters to the page with gloss, and remove the tape to reveal the
small abstract paintings!
