As winter approaches, it is fun to find ways to use your art in holiday projects for your journal or in celebrating in general. These tags are versitile and can be added to your journal pages, or in adding that special handmade touch to your gift giving this year. Follow along to find out how fun and easy these are to whip up. Be careful – it is hard to just make one!
Step 1: Stamp your main images from the Collaged Girls stamp set directly onto the tags with Jet Black Archival Ink close to either edge
Step 2: Using your Mini Ink Blending Tool with Foam, apply some Gilt paint to your branch stamp from the Be Willing stamp set and stamp several onto cardstock and allow to dry.
Step 3: Stamp your holiday sentiments from the Just What to Say stamp set onto white cardstock with Jet Black Archival Ink.
Step 4 : Color around your images (in the holiday colors of your choosing) with Scribble Sticks. Press firmly as you color to get the maximum amount of pigment from the Scribble Sticks. Wet a brush and saturate the pigment as you spread it around your image.
Step 5: Using the Mini Blending Tool, stencil around your image with the Done Is Better stencil in Gilt acrylic paint. Burnish the edges of your tag as well, for a more defined look.
Step 6: Once dry, cut out your leaves and sentiments.
Step 7: Have fun arranging the leaves and sentiments onto your tag. Glue down the sentiments onto your tag. Use the Tiny Attacher to staple your branches so they have a looser, three-dimensional look
Hello! My name is Megan Whisner Quinlan. I have been an art journaling and book binding for about 20 years. However I took a 10-year break from paper arts when I had my first 2 children. About 5 years ago, I came back into journaling after some big life changes, including 2 more children. Journaling had always been a part of my life, especially to work things out in life on paper. When I first started out, I really only focused on making books by hand and some basic collage and stamping. I was intimidated by the amazing art journalers out there who had elaborate mixed media spreads in their journals. But when I came back to journaling after such a long break, I decided that I was going to really push myself to learn all the techniques I had been too afraid to try. Painting and drawing have really allowed me to find so much joy in my creative process, and I now almost exclusively create mixed media every day.
