Perfect Pearls Winter Cheer Card by Lauren Bergold

Perfect Pearls add a magical shimmer and luminous shine to any project, whether used wet or dry. Follow along as Lauren Bergold mixes them with water to create pearlescent watercolor effects on this sweet and snowy winter cheer card.

Instructions

There is (in my opinion) NO bad way to use Perfect Pearls, but I especially love the soft yet stunning effect they create when mixed with water and painted over a white-embossed background.

Step 1: Gather Materials: Perfect Pearls in Blue Hydrangea, Forever Blue and Turquoise; Clear Emboss It Ink; Embossing Powder in White, Verdigris and Black; Archival Inks in Jet Black, Shadow Grey, Olive, Cobalt and Rose Madder; Simon Hurley create Skating By and Christmas Borders Stamp Sets.

Step 2: Trim a piece of watercolor cardstock to 5" square. Stamp the snowflakes from Simon Hurley's create Cling Mount Christmas Borders with clear Emboss It Ink, sprinkle with Ranger White Embossing Powder, and melt with the Heat It Craft Tool. Reposition the stamp and repeat until the panel is full.

Step 3: Add a generous amount of Blue Hydrangea Perfect Pearls to clear water and mix well. Use a brush to paint the color all over embossed panel from Step 2. Set aside and allow to dry completely.

Step 4: Trim a piece of watercolor cardstock to 4" square. Stamp the snowflakes from Simon Hurley's create Cling Mount Christmas Borders with clear Emboss It Ink, sprinkle with Ranger White Embossing Powder, and melt with the Heat It Craft Tool. Reposition the stamp and repeat until the panel is full.

Step 5: Add a generous amount of Forever Blue Perfect Pearls to clear water and mix well. Use a brush to paint the color all over embossed panel from Step 4. Set aside and allow to dry.

Step 6: Tear the top edge of a 4 x 2" piece of watercolor cardstock. Add a small amount of Turquoise Perfect Pearls to clear water and mix well. Use a brush to paint the color all over the torn panel. Set aside and allow to dry completely.

Step 7: Stamp the large snow-covered pine tree from Simon's Winter Wonderland Clear Stamp set once on a scrap of Stark White Cardstock, and the smaller snow-covered pine twice with clear Emboss It Ink. Emboss with Verdigris Powder. Cut the trees out with the coordinating dies or with scissors.

Step 8: Stamp the little rabbit from Simon's Skating By set on a scrap of Stark White Cardstock and emboss with Black Powder. Color the image using Archival Inks and a fine-tipped waterbrush filled with Isopropyl Alcohol. Colors used in the sample are well-diluted: Shadow Grey for the fur; Olive for the shirt; a tiny bit of Rose Madder on the ears and cheeks. Set aside and allow to dry before cutting out with the coordinating dies or with scissors.

Step 9: Using Jet Black Archival, stamp the "Skating by to Say Hi" sentiment at the center of the (well-dried) Turquoise panel from Step 6, near the torn top edge. Layer this piece onto the Forever Blue panel from and attach with your favorite adhesive.

Step 10: Assembly: Affix the layered panel from Step 9 to the center of a 5.5" square card. Use a circle die (or a compass and craft knife) to cut a 3.25" circle in the center of the Blue Hydrangea snowflake panel. Ink the edges lightly with Cobalt Archival, if desired, and affix to the card using foam adhesive squares for a little dimension. Attach the snowy pine trees to the edges of the scene, as pictured, and complete by adding the sweet skating rabbit to the card with foam squares.

Step 11: Write a message inside your card, address to a friend or family member and mail immediately to give them a little winter treat!
